Discussion of proposed plan for 2016-2017 school year. Christy Wagner, reading specialist, gave information on reading and statistics. Farr West is showing above average growth. Christy believes this is attributed to the focus of using reading aides in classrooms through a push in program. Goal #1 needs to remain the same. With Goal #2 discussion was related to purchasing a Google Chrome lab. Terie Maxfield, 6th grade teacher, talked about the computer to student ratio and how much it has helped in writing, several other subjects and SAGE preparation. The concern was brought up about maintenance. Ms. Wright is going to check into whether Google Chrome Labs are under a lease like the other lab purchased with district monies. Questions were brought up regarding not focusing on math with Land Trust monies, but looking at data from SAGE testing, Farr West is 10% points lower in literacy than in math. Ricard Curletto and Cherie Fowers were unable to attend but asked Ms. Wright to email them the plan for approval which the committee approved.  The plan was approved by all 6 of the meeting attendees.

Shelly Craig, Erin Jepsen, Julie Clark, Melissa Beyer, and Laura Wright were present. Christy Wagner, the school's reading specialist spent time sharing reading data from last year. She showed data comparing the school with the district. We had above average increases. 2nd grade did not show significant growth in the school and across the district. Reading specialists throughout the district are spending time analyzing this problem. In SAGE our school scores increased in each of the three areas. The council has asked that the principal send some kind of a flyer out through email sharing the school data and information on community council. The council also discussed HB 213 Technology Digital Citizenship. The council would like the principal to contact NetSmartz and request a parent technology night in January to share safe technology practices with parents. During the last week of October, the school will practice several safety drills. Miss Wright still needs to schedule a safety drill involving police escorting students from the building. This will need to be scheduled in the spring as the weather is changing. The council discussed the necessity to do these drills in September instead, so students have the training at the beginning of the year.

Meeting Notes from 9-9

All community Council members were present. Viewed video about Trustlands Money. Discussion of need to inform and discuss with community the positive effects of our community council. Viewed handout for officer and community council member's roles. Shelley Craig nominated Erin Jepsen as Community Council Chair. This was seconded by Terie Maxfield Erin was unanimously selected as chair. Shelley nominated Cherie Fowers as Vice Chair which was seconded by Melissa Beyer. Cherie was unanimously selected as vice chair.

Laura Wright demonstrated how to visit other resources on the Landtrust.org site, as well as how to view the current year’s plan.

Safety issues were discussed regarding why students now had to walk west around the school in the morning instead of walking directly east to portables. Laura Wright indicated this change was for the morning only due to the various trucks that arrive in the morning to empty trash and deliver food. There were several safety issues the first week of school that prompted the changed. Students may walk along the east side of the school at the end of the day because there aren’t deliveries.

Drop off and pick up issues in the parking lot were also discussed. Laura Wright will send out an email to all parents about procedures and safety.

Next meeting has been changed to October 21 in order to accommodate Fall Break. The council asked Laura Wright to send out a notification to parents about meetings so more of the community will be involved.

At the next meeting, digital citizenship bill will be discussed as well as data from the Land Trust plan from the 2014-2015 school year. There will also be a safety discussion regarding drills and sharing information from the iloveuguys.org site. Meeting was adjourned at 4:40pm
