Land Trust Goals

November 2016

It is that time of year to discuss the progress we are making on our Land Trust goals.  The School LAND Trust Program, established by the legislature in 1999, distributes the “annual dividend” from the permanent State School Fund through school districts and charter school for all public schools in the state.  Elected parents, elected teachers and the school’s principal serve on the Community Councils.  The Councils in each school prepare a plan to address the school’s greatest academic need.  Local school boards approve the plans and funding is sent to each school with an approved plan before the school year begins.  The council for the 2016-2017 includes the following members:

Our council meets to discuss various community needs as well as the School LAND Trust Program. We will be meeting @ 3:30 on the following dates: November 14, January 11, February 8, March 8, April 12.  These meetings are held in the conference room and open for anyone to attend.

The goal for 2015-2016 was to improve reading comprehension & reading fluency, and to provide professional development opportunities for all teachers. We received $63,862 for the school and the funds were used to purchase the following:

  • Reading aides to work with all students in K-1 and students in grades 2-6 identified as intensive
  • Computer Lab aide
  • 35 Google Chrome portable laptop lab
Substitutes to provide time for teachers to collaborate

If you have any questions regarding the Land Trust programs, please contact the school. Thanks so much for all you do to support your students at Farr West Elementary

                                                            Sincerely,
